Discovering Good Inside has been game changing… actually life changing. Good Inside is unique amongst the parenting guidance resources because it prioritizes what we as parents need in order to stay sane and grounded in order to meet our kid’s needs. It also provides practical strategies and skills to successfully move beyond the norms of generations past such as time outs and punishments. I love the community. I love Dr Becky. And I love parenting my children more than ever.

This workshop changed everything for us. It really helped my husband feel seen in his concerns on punishments and then explained things in a way that actually made sense to him. The sports metaphor specifically really helped him... he keeps talking about it, how he now sees himself as a coach and how effective coaches don’t send kids to their room or punish them, they teach them.

I wish I’d known about this workshop when my 14-year-old son was younger. I asked his pediatrician for advice and she recommended repeated, consistent time outs. They didn’t work, obviously. It really hurt our relationship. When my younger son started on the same path I reacted differently and it has helped. And my older son and I are doing pretty darn well now. If I had a dollar for every time someone insisted I punish my kid, I’d be rich. I’m so glad there’s a different approach on this.

I’ve only taken the ‘Why Punishments and Time-Outs Don’t Work and What To Do Instead’ workshop, but it truly opened my eyes to my own parenting. I learned that I’m not teaching my kids skills to regulate themselves by sending them to their rooms or with other punishments. This course gave me scripts to use for certain situations and they’ve been easily incorporated into our daily life.

Being a parent is incredibly difficult and the best thing about Dr. Becky is that she understands this. It is essential not only for parents to understand what’s behind their child’s behavior but to have serious strategies to handle tricky situations. I heard my grandchildren being given various punishments- no dessert, etc and I cringed. So I shared Dr. Becky with my own child - the parent - and I can see the difference. The goal is not the punishment, but the understanding and correction of the behavior.
